Sears Tower Glass Balconies At 103rd Floor

Friday, July 03, 2009

The new Glass Balconies of Sears Tower, which are suspended 1,353 feet above the downtown streets of Chicago are the new spot for tourists. The balconies are jut out four feet from Sears Tower’s 103rd floor Skydeck.

People who have phobia of height must think twice before step out on the balconies because the walls, floors and ceilings are all transparent, you will feel like floating over the city. The glass of the balconies is an inch-and-a-half thick and can stand a load of five tons.

However, visitors who dare to step on the balconies, they can enjoy the unobstructed views of Chicago from the building’s west side and a heart-stopping vista of the street and Chicago River right below their feet.

The Sears Tower’s name will change to Willis Tower later this summer. Furthermore, a 5-year, $350 million green renovation complete with wind turbines, roof gardens and solar panels.
